A dispersed group of post Medieval or early 20th century pits are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs on West Holme Heath. They are likely to be extractive pits although a military origin is also possible (1-2). The features are partially still visible under modern scrub on recent Google Earth imagery. They were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
