Full Description
A post medieval gravel pit is shown on the First Edition OS Map, located on the lower south-west slopes of Challow Hill, Corfe Castle. A pit is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs at this location (Royal Air Force 1946; National Monuments Record 1926). Several other pits are visible further to the east and are considered likely to be the remains of additional gravel extraction pits. These features were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
