Summary

Site of a Bronze Age bowl barrow, part of a larger barrow cemetery extending along the Dorset Ridgeway. Field investigations record it as an extant mound. Also visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs.

Full Description

Bowl barrow around 45 feet in diameter with a mound about Diameter 45 ft, height 4½ feet high.{1-2}.

Heather-covered bowl barrow; diameter 16.0m., height 1.3m. - 1.8m.. No visible ditch.{3}.

Also visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs {4-7}, measuring approximately 7.8 metres in diameter. This site was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.

Diameter 16.0m, ht. 1.3m-1.8m. A pile of flint nodules and limestone lumps has been placed on top of the mound. A line of large sarsen stones on the SW of the barrow may be part of an 'inner retaining circle'. Situated in heathland and heather covered. 1/1/A
