Summary

Site of a possible Bronze Age bowl barrow. Recorded by field investigators as an extant oval mound. Also visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs.

Full Description

Site of a possible Bronze Age bowl barrow, part of a larger linear barrow cemetery extending along the Dorset Ridgeway.

Possible oval bowl barrow, 50 ft. (North-South) by 36 ft. Height 2 ft. Flat-topped. {1-2}.

Later field investigations record a mound at this location, diameter approximately 18.0m., height 0.1m. to 1.1m. {3}.

Also visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs {4-6}, seen as a large circular mound with an outer ditch, measuring approximately 32.6 metres in overall diameter. This site was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.

Diameter 10.0m, ht. 0.5m. Grass, heather and moss covered. Two elongated hollows on top indicate the severe disturbance of the mound. 1/5/D
