An extensive linear series of chalk quarries are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs running from Bare Cross eastwards along the lower southern slopes of Knowle Hill. They are considered to be of medieval or later origin (1). The features are still visible on the most recent Google Earth imagery. They were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck NMP.
