Monument record MDO31273 - Prehistoric or Roman field system, Knowle Hill, Church Knowle

A series of low linear banks are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs on the northwest facing slope of Knowle Hill, Church Knowle. The parallel features are considered to be fragments of a field system of probable late prehistoric or Roman origin.

Field system - faint, almost negligible. Traces of lynchets. <2>

The indicated area lies on a very steep NW-facing hill-slope and is covered in thicket and gorse. The field system was not evident but probably still survives under the vegetation cover. <3>

The features are under scrub and no longer visible on the most recent Google Earth imagery. They were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck NMP.
