A group of approximately 80 small pits are visible as earthworks and bare soil on aerial photographs on Stonehill Down, Church Knowle (1). They are possibly shell holes associated with Second World War military activity or chalk pits. The features are no longer visible as low earthworks on the most recent Google Earth imagery. The site was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck NMP.
