Full Description
A possible post medieval wood bank, or early modern military earthwork, is visible as earthworks on undated aerial photographs (which probably date to the 1930s), on Wool Heath, within the Tank Training Area of Bovington Camp. The earthworks comprise: two sections of angled linear banks, some with associated ditches, visible over an area measuring 455 m by 250 m. The area is not shown as under tree cover on the 1st ed OS map, so the features may be the remains of wood bank of earlier date, but a military function is also a possibility, given the location within the tank training area. (1) These features were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
