Full Description

SY67978838. Bowl barrow Ring-ditch, 20 paces in diameter visible as parch mark in pasture summer of 1976. (Not visible on RAF air photographs CPE UK1934/3087-8 of 17 1 47).

A rapid examination of air photography shows the barrow as a ring ditch. Also visible is a U-shaped feature and a feature composed of two parallel ditches with a central pit. The features may be related (although not quite in line, they do seem to form a close, distinct group) and could possibly be associated with the Roman road (RR 48). They may be a funerary monument of some form. All the features, of Prehistoric or Roman date, are visible as cropmarks at:
A - SY 6799 8839 - ring ditch
B - SU 6793 8839 - linear features and pit
C - SU 6787 8837 - U-shaped curvilinear feature. <2>
