Summary

Possible disc barrow, overlaps Winterborne Monkton 9, apparently similar in size and type, its ditch and external bank cuts the bank, ditch, and berm of Winterborne Monkton 9 (RCHM). Visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs. The site was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.

Full Description

'C', also listed as a bowl barrow, was excavated in 1833-4, and contained a central cist with a cremation in an upright urn (possibly a Late Bronze Age globular urn). (3) Other finds included six skeletons, a bone pin, and another urn containing ashes. <1>

(Centred SY 675882) Barrow group noted by Skinner in 1829. 'C' Possible disc barrow whose ditch and external bank cut the bank, ditch and berm of 'B', which it resembles in size and type. <2>

All the barrows are visible on Crawford air photograph. <4>

'C' Ploughed out, no remains. All these barrows are in arable and have been ploughed-down to such an extent that their type cannot be determined. Re-surveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. <5>

There is now no visible trace of this barrow which has been totally ploughed out. It is situated in a field of ley pasture. 1/7/E
