Full Description
Numerous possible Second World War weapons pits are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s and 1950s on Black Down, Studland. The earthworks are formed of small oval pits, measuring approximately 3 m by 2 m, frequently surrounded by banks of spoil. The pits are visible over an area measuring approximately 680 m by 440 m. (1) Two small buildings and a trackway (see linked records) may be associated with the possible weapons pits. These features were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
