English Heritage, 1997, Monuments Protection Programme Step 3 Report: The Quarrying Industries, Dorset 14 (Monograph). SDO20419.

‘The remains of medieval Purbeck Marble (shelly limestone) quarrying situated within the extensive line of medieval marble quarries (principally famous in the 13th century) that follow the northern slope of Purbeck Hill. The site consists of a considerable area of ground disturbance in the form of undulous earthworks, Within the outlined area the remains are diffuse and require detailed survey. The remains probably continue into Afflington Wood to the east but no access to this area was possible at the time of visit. Individual areas are covered with scrub and have pheasant hatcheries. Topography and vegetation cover prevented meaningful photography.’
