Full Description
An area of medieval, post medieval, or possibly earlier, extractive pits are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs of 1997 to the east of Burleston and west of Tolpuddle. The field system is visible over an area measuring approximately 585 m by 245 m. The boundaries are oriented north-south and east-west. (1-2) The field system is located around an area of extractive pits (see MDO30638), also visible as cropmarks, but it is difficult to tell whether they pre- or post-date these features. The boundaries may be associated with a possible area of Bronze Age/Iron Age settlement located immediately to the west (see MDO30640). This feature was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
