Full Description
Four post medieval extractive pits are visible as earthworks on lidar imagery and the 1st edition OS map, to the south of Ilsington Wood. The pits are located on sand and measure between 30 m by 18 m and 57 m by 50 m. (1) Three of the pits are grouped together and marked on the 1st edition OS map as "Hell Pit". The fourth is marked as "Old Chalk Pit". (2) The features were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
