Full Description
An area of post medieval chalk pits is visible as an earthwork on lidar imagery of 2010 within Cowpound Wood to the south of Athelhampton. The earthworks are visible over an area measuring approximately 280 m by 260 m. The pits are located on the Portsdown Chalk Formation and measure between 8 m by 8 m and 30 m by 22 m. (1) The features were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
