Monument record MDO30437 - Early twentieth-century trenching, Wool and Stoke Heaths, Wool and East Stoke

A extensive complex of military practice trenching is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs on Wool and Stoke Heaths. The features are considered to date to the First World War and are the result of military training exercises associated with Bovington Camp (MDO30438).

A extensive complex of military practice trenching is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs on Wool and Stoke Heaths (1-4). The features are considered to date to the First World War and are the result of military training exercises associated with Bovington Camp (MDO30438). Whilst much has been obliterated by modern military activity, some areas are still preserved as earthworks, for example on Stoke Heath (5). The features were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
