A scatter of small pits are visible as earthworks on Crawford Collection aerial photographs taken in the 1920's, 30's to the east of Old Knowle (1). They are considered to relate to early 20th century military training activity, possibly fox-holes or shell holes. They were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
