An 'Old Chalk Pit' is marked on the OS 1st Edition map to the north of North Wood. It is visible as low earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1946 and cropmarks in 2002 (1-2). The site was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
