Full Description
Post medieval or early twentieth-century quarrying is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken on Whitcombe Hill, Winfrith Newburgh (1-2). The features are marked as 'Sand Pit' on the OS 1st edition map and 'Gravel Pit' on the 2nd edition. They are partially still visible as earthworks on the most recent Google Earth imagery. The site was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
