Summary

Several groups of small pits are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1947 on Winfrith Heath, to the south of what is now Winfrith Technology Centre. They are considered to relate to early 20th century military activity, possibly fox-holes or shell holes.

Several groups of small pits are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1947 on Winfrith Heath, to the south of what is now Winfrith Technology Centre (1). They are considered to relate to early 20th century military activity, possibly fox-holes or shell holes. Some are still visible on the most recent Google Earth imagery. They were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
