Full Description

A Bronze Age pond barrow, part of the Culliford Tree barrow group, a linear group of barrows ranged along part of the Dorset Ridgeway. Listed by RCHME as Winterborne Came 23 and by Grinsell as Winterborne Came 24a, it was recorded in 1979 during Ordnance Survey field investigation as a very well preserved pond barrow measuring 38.5 metres in overall diameter. The surrounding bank was up to 1.3 metres high above the interior and an average of 12 metres wide. Traces of an outer ditch, previously noted by RCHME to be circa 20 feet wide, were extremely vague and indeterminate. <1-3>

Overall diameter 38.5m, ht. of bank from inside is 1.3m and average width is 12.0m. Overgrown in deciduous woodland. 1/2/B
