Monument record MDO3019 - Barrow, one of the Bincombe Down Group, Winterborne Came

Please read our .

Summary

A bowl barrow located immediately within the western edge of Came Wood. Formerly described by RCHME as being much overgrown and disturbed, in 1980 the Ordnance Survey recorded it as a mound 13 metres in diameter and 1.5 metres high, with no visible surrounding ditch. It was surrounded, however, by overgrown modern spoil-heaps, which made identification difficult. RCHME has suggested that some of the barrows in this general area were among those dug into by Warne in the mid-19th century.
