A pit of probable post medieval or modern date is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of South Heath taken in 1946 (1). It is considered likely to be associated with the extraction of gravel. This feature was plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project. It is not visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial images available to the project, having since been destroyed by more recent quarrying activity in this area.
