Summary

A rectilinear structure is visible on aerial photographs of Dodding's Farm taken in 1947. It is located within a former quarry pit (MDO30003) and is considered likely to be the remains of a post medieval to early modern brickyard associated with Dodding's Brick Yard. A field visit to this site in 1974 recorded the extant remains of a small updraught Scotch kiln.

Full Description

Brick making was recorded at Dodding's brickyard in the 17th century, and continued until at least 1911. There are remains of a small updraught Scotch kiln. <1>

A rectilinear structure, approximately 9.5m x 6.5m, is visible on aerial photographs of Dodding's Farm taken in 1947 <2>. It is located within a former quarry pit (MDO30003) and is considered likely to be the remains of a post medieval to early modern brickyard associated with Dodding's Brickyard. This feature was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project. A field visit to this site in 1974 recorded the extant remains of a small updraught Scotch kiln.
