Second World War beach defences are visible on aerial photographs of 1941 along the beach front to the south of Southbourne Coast Road. The beach defences appear to have been removed later during the Second World War. They consist of a line of defences extending along the beach for a distance of 73 m, then turning inland at its eastern and western ends. (1) This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
