Monument record MDO29884 - Second World War beach defences, Wyke Regis, Weymouth

An almost continuous length of barbed wire fencing is visible on aerial photographs, extending along the coast south-eastwards from Wyke Regis Bridging Camp to Chesil Beach Holiday Park. The fencing is double-banded for at least half of its extent. It is considered likely to be a form of beach defences associated with Second World War military activity in this area

An almost continuous length of barbed wire fencing is visible on aerial photographs (1-3), extending along the coast south-eastwards from Wyke Regis Bridging Camp (MDO29869, NGR SY64829 77668) to Chesil Beach Holiday Park (NGR SY66272 76448). The fencing is double-banded for at least half of its extent. It is considered likely to be a form of beach defences associated with Second World War military activity in this area. It was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset). It is not visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial images available tot he project.
