Summary

A structure is visible on aerial photographs of Nothe Gardens taken in 1947. It is considered likely to be the site of the Second World War 90mm searchlight recorded to have been located here by the National Monument Record (NMR 1420962). It was reportedly destroyed by a landslide in 1988 and later rebuilt inside Nothe Fort (NGR SY68697877).

90mm searchlight, part of Nothe Fort defences. The searchlight in position today is a replica of one that was removed by a landslip [on site information at Nothe Fort].

A structure is visible on aerial photographs of Nothe Gardens taken in 1947 <4>. It is considered likely to be the site of the Second World War 90mm searchlight recorded to have been located here by the National Monument Record (NMR 1420962). It was reportedly destroyed by a landslide in 1988 and later rebuilt inside Nothe Fort (NGR SY68697877). This feature was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset). This feature is not visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial images available to the project.
