A possible Second World War military road is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of the 1940s on Chesil Beach, to the west of Castletown (1-2). The road extends along the line of four possible minefield sites and may have been constructed to facilitate their post-war removal. The road is visible as a bank flanked by ditches, extending for a length of approximately 2240 m. This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
