Monument record MDO29753 - 19th century reservoir, East Weare Batteries, Portland

A reservoir shown on the 1:25-inch scale Ordnance Survey map published in 1891, on which it is described as 'Old Reservoir'. The bank surrounding the reservoir is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of the 1940s to the south of Balaclava Coastguard Station.

The bank surrounding a 19th century reservoir is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of the 1940s to the south of Balaclava Coastguard Station, Portland. The earthwork consists of a curving D-shaped bank, visible over an area measuring 53 m by 32 m (Royal Air Force 1946). The site is marked as 'Old Reservoir' on the 2nd ed OS map (1891). This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
