Summary

What appears to be a barbed wire enclosure is visible on RAF aerial photographs taken between 1945-6, located on the cliff edge at Hobarrow Bay. This area is considered likely to be a military site associated with Second World War activity in this area. A rectangular structure is visible within the enclosure at NGR SY 89626 79060 and may be a pillbox or observation post associated with this site.

Full Description

What appears to be a barbed wire enclosure, approximately 90m x 46m, is visible on RAF aerial photographs taken between 1945-6 (1-2), located on the cliff edge at Hobarrow Bay. This area is considered likely to be a military site associated with Second World War activity in this area. A rectangular structure, approximately 4m x 2.3m, is visible within the enclosure at NGR SY 89626 79060 and may be a pillbox or observation post associated with this site. A trackway leading to this structure is likely to be contemporary with it. These features were digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset). They are not visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial photographs available to the project.
