Full Description

A Bronze Age pond barrow, part of the Culliford Tree barrow group, a linear group of barrows ranged along part of the Dorset Ridgeway. Listed by RCHME as Whitcombe 6 and by Grinsell as Whitcombe 13a, it was described in 1979 during Ordnance Survey field investigation as being circa 45 metres in diameter, surrounded by a fragmentary bank 8 metres wide and 0.2 metres high. It is crossed by the parish boundary with Winterborne Came, marked here by a field wall. There appeared to be no difference between the level of the ground inside and outside the bank. NB this site was originally listed by Grinsell as a disc barrow. <1-4>
