Full Description
The remains of a possible enclosure and an associated trackway are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs (1-2), located on the cliff edge at Halcombe Vale. It is of uncertain date and function. An internal sub-square earthwork mound or platform may be associated with it. Its cliff edge location and close proximity to Flower's Barrow Iron Age hill fort (MMDO7654) suggests it could be contemporary with this. Alternatively it could be related to Second World war military activity in this area (MDO29420). This feature was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset). It is still partially visible as an earthwork on the most recent comprehensive aerial images available to the project.
