Full Description

A set of two masts surrounded by barbed wire fencing are visible as extant structures on aerial photographs of Ringstead taken in 1946 (1). They are considered likely to be masts associated with the chain home radar station that was active here between 1940 and 1956. They form part of a group of dispersed structures relating to the radar station which included reciever masts, transmission and reciever blocks, accomodation huts, guard huts and standby set houses. Another set of similar masts are located appoximately 260m to the north-west (MDO24568) and are likely to be associated. The site is not visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial imagery available to the project. These features were digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
