Full Description

A group of Second World War miltary structures is visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s on Anvil Point, Swanage, to the south and west of Anvil Point Lighthouse. A barbed wire enclosure surround the area of coastline at the southern end of the Anvil Point Lighthouse enclosure. A barbed wire enclosure appears to overlie a possible field boundary, which may be earlier in date (see MDO29150). A slit trench lies immediately to the north of the bank, within the enclosure. The site covers an area measuring approximately 230 m by 120 m. A cross-shaped structure of uncertain function is located to the north of barbed wire enclosure. (1) This site was digitally plotted during the South west Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
