Full Description

A circular banked enclosure, possibly part of the group of earthworks known as Studland Circles, is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs of 1946 and 1971 on Studland Heath, to the south east of Greenland. The earthwork is formed of a circular banked enclosure measuring approximately 32 m in diameter. (1-2)

The date and function of the Studland Circles is unclear but excavation work carried out on one of the circles in 2009 suggested that they may be post medieval in origin. (3)

Two other groups of circles are located to the north west (see linked records). This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).

Description from record MDO47635:
A banked circular enclosure, similar in appearance to the Studland Circles (eg NRHE 45782) which are located to the north, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs on Studland Heath, centred at SZ 02141 84075. The enclosure is of unclear function and date. Excavation of one of the Studland Circles in 2009 found it to be constructed rather than natural and thought to be post-18th century in date. This feature was recorded from EH Reconnaissance aerial photographs of 2011. (1-2)
