A probable post medieval extractive pit is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs of 1925 to the west of Studland Wood, Studland. The pit is sub-oval and measures 23 m by 10 m. (1) The pit may have been used for the extraction of chalk or gravel. This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
