Full Description
A large area of Second World War bomb craters is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of the 1940s to the east of Salterne, Studland. Six scattered craters are located to the west of the area and are probably associated with it. This area was used for military training. The craters are sub-circular and measure between 3 m and 7 m. They are visible over an area measuring approximately 640 m by 370 m. (1) It may have been associated with other military activity in the area, including: an area of trackways to the west (see MDO29033), a practice trench (see MDO29034) and a possible gun post (see MDO29037). This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
