Summary

A surface scatter of flint and Portland chert tools and waste. The tools included a chert awl, trimmed flakes, and a small fabricator, and were described as being of a Mesolithic aspect.

Full Description

Stone implements, probably Mesolithic, have been found at SY 721894, West Stafford, by Martin Green and Barry Lewis.

They include two retouched flakes of Portland Chert, an awl of Portland Chert, and a flint fabrictor, side scraper and awl. <1-2>

‘West Stafford, ST 721894. No diagnostic artefacts have yet been found, but the finds have a Mesolithic aspect. They include: 2 Portland chert flakes with inverse retouch; 1 Portland chert awl with fine blunting retouch on one side; 1 waste flake, also of Portland chert; a small fabricator; 1 side scraper and another awl in flint.’
