Full Description
A circular enclosure is visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs (1-2), located approximately 376m south-east of Middlebere Farm. The site comprises of a circular bank, approximately 2.4m wide and 17m in diameter, enclosing an internal circular mound, approximately 5.8m in diameter. An outer ditch surrounds the enclosure bank, giving the feature an overall diameter of 23m. A gap, approximately 2.8m in width, is located in the northern part of the enclosure bank and is probably an entrance way. It is possible this could be the remains of a late Neolithic/early Bronze Age hengiform monument of a class one type. This feature was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset). It is not visible on the most recent comprehensive imagery available to the project (3).
