Summary

A oval pit is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs of Arne Farm taken in 1956. It is located towards the southern end of a field just to the east of Arne Farm. Remains of Romano-british pottery and occupation debris have been located just to the north of this site (MDO7062) and it is considered possible that this pit may be of some association with this.

Full Description

A oval pit, approximately 8m x 4m, is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs of Arne Farm taken in 1956 (1). It is located towards the southern end of a field just to the east of Arne Farm. Remains of Romano-british pottery and occupation debris have been located just to the north of this site (MDO7062) and it is considered possible that this pit may be of some association with this. This feature was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset). It is not visible on the most recent comprehensive imagery available to the project (2).
