Full Description

A possible medieval or post medieval enclosure, possibly an animal pound, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1947 to the north of the recreation ground to the west of Stanpit. The banked enclosure is sub-rectangular in shape and has an internal measurement of 10 m by 7 m. Two curved banks lie immediately to the north of the enclosure, which follow the line of the field boundary as shown on the 1st ed OS map. (1-2) The site is not visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial imagery available to the project. (3) This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
