Full Description

An area of possible post medieval sand extraction is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1952 to the south west of Goathorn Pier. Six pits, one overlying another, are visible over an area measuring 54 m by 30 m. The pits are located on Parkstone Sand Member. (1) A banked enclosure is located in the centre of the area of extraction and may be associated with it (see MDO28767). This site is not visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial imagery available to the project. (2) This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
