Full Description
Eight 19th century clay extractive pits are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of 1947 around William Pit in the south west of Brownsea Island. They are probably associated with the tile and brickworks located immediately to the south west (see linked record 6 019 144). They pits are grouped closely together and measure between 7 m by 10 m and 20 m by 30 m. (1) The site is not visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial imagery available to the project. (2) This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
