It is known to have been operational from 1940-1944. It was initially installed with two 3-inch guns in 1941, but was unarmed in 1942. The site of a Second World War Heavy Anti-Aircraft Battery at Northmoor Park is visible as buildings, structures and earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1945 <2>. These features have since been demolished and built over by moden housing development. This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
