Full Description

Possible Second World War anti-tank ditches are visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s immediately to the south of Southbourne Coast Road. The ditches are in a zig-zag pattern and are visible over an area measuring 25 m by 20 m. (1) Anti-tank ditches were often constructed in a zig-zag pattern and formed part of defensive stop lines. (2) The ditches are not extensive and may have been excavated for practise purposes. The site is not visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial imagery available to the project. (3) A slit trench is located immediately to the north east (see MDO28610). This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
