Full Description
Second World War pyramidial anti-tank blocks are visible on aerial photographs of 1945 at Branksome Dene Chine. Two parallel lines of anti-tank blocks, one formed of nine blocks and one of ten blocks extend east to west across a junction of a road at the end of the chine and the seafront. (1) Anti-tank blocks, made of reinforced concrete, were one of the coastal crust defence measures used to protect vulnerable areas during the Second World War. The site is not visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial imagery available to the project. (2) This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
