Full Description
The remains of Second World War beach scaffolding is visible on aerial photographs of 1945 along the beach front at Southbourne. The beach scaffolding is visible in three sections over a total distance of 210 m, running parallel to Southbourne Coast Road. (1) Beach scaffolding was constructed of wire held by two lines of tubular steel scaffolding braced from behind by steel struts. The scaffolding was arranged in lines along the front of the beach to impede landing craft and was removed immediately after the war. (2) This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
