Full Description
Second World War beach scaffolding is visible on aerial photographs of 1945 along the beach front at Boscombe. The beach defences extend from Manor Bay in the west for a distance of approximately 320 m. (1) Beach scaffolding was constructed of wire held by two lines of tubular steel scaffolding braced from behind by steel struts. The scaffolding was arranged in lines along the front of the beach to impede landing craft and was removed immediately after the war. (2) This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
