Summary
The remains of a waterfront of mid 16th to mid 17th century date comprising of a limestone slab revetment held in place by timber piles was found during excavations at 'Newports' in 1975. Dumps of oyster shell were found in front of this waterfront.

Full Description
A waterfront constructed of upright limestone slabs revetted to seaward by timber piles was uncovered during excavations by Poole Museum at 'Newports' in 1975. The waterfront was on the line of the high water mark shown on a 1751 map of Poole. The land to the east had been reclaimed at some time after 1634 on map evidence. In front of the waterfront was a dump of oyster shells. (1)
