FIELD SYSTEMS:- Taken from Air Photos in Jany-March 1949 by:- R.J.C. Atkinson <1>

[Area Centred at SY 56709398] An area of extensive IA/RB lynchets and field banks, under pasture. The system is naturally most pronounced between the
700ft and 600ft contours where the ground is steepest, but even on the ground above the 700ft contour lynchets and field banks average 0.3m. high, and are well defined. The system is visible on Aps CPE/UK/2431/4149 4151. <2>

Fragments of an extensive rectilinear banked field system of Iron Age or Roman origin, to the south-east of West Compton. The field banks and lynchets are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs. They are possible associated with the settlement described in MDO2844. <3-6>
